HEAP - Summer Crisis Program

The Office of Community Services (OCS) will again fund the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) – Summer Crisis Program (SCP). The Summer Crisis Program (SCP) is designed to help qualified households pay for summer cooling. This program applies to electric utilities only and is available from June 1 through August 31.The Summer Crisis Program is administered by the local delegate agencies.

How do I qualify for the Summer Crisis Program?
Households must have a gross annual income of 175 percent of the federal poverty level or below and meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for the Summer Crisis Program:
Have a member of the household who is at least 60 years old; or
Provide physician documentation of medical necessity.
What are the benefits of the Summer Crisis Program?

One-time payment assistance of up to $175.
You do not have to be enrolled in PIPP to be eligible for the Summer Crisis Program.
You do not need a disconnection notice to be eligible for the program.
An additional benefit can also be given for households with a member who has a medical condition that would benefit from an air conditioner: One air conditioning unit per household (for households that have not received an air conditioning unit in the last 3 years).
