Primary Care Services for Mental Health Clients
HRC clients receiving mental health services often have unmet health needs. Every mental health client completes a physical health self assessment form which is reviewed by a nurse practitioner at a face-to-face appointment. Additional appointments are made for follow-up care or referral to specialty clinics. Therapists consult with or refer to the nurse practitioner as needs arise.
Student Training
Multidisciplinary internships are available to counseling, social work, medical and nursing students and psychiatric residents. The experience educates students in the needs of underserved populations, the value of multidisciplinary care and service and policy gaps to health care. Between 1995 and 2007 approximately 138 students have received training at the Health Resource Center.
