Deaf Mental Health Treatment Team
 
GCB's Deaf Mental health Treatment Team provides Deaf-friendly services to adults in the Greater Cincinnati Area.  The team works with adlts who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and those who area Deaf and Blind.
 
The team is sensitive to the unique needs of Deaf individuals and is fluent in sign language.  The team helps individuals access needed services in the community and provides support in navigating a large and complex system that often cannot communicate with Deaf Individuals.
 
The goal of the team is to assist individuals to better manage their illness, and achieve their personal, work, family and community oriented goals.
 
Services provided:
 
All services that are directly provided or coordinated by the team are based on the unique needs of the individual, and are culturally sensitive to the client's needs.  Services are offered to assist individuals to become independent as possible and successfully join in their community.

In addition to providing mental health services, team members actively participate in the Deaf Community.  Theam members are active on all regional advacacy, planning and advisory groups and committees that address Deaf issues.  These include:  The CSD Advisory Board and the Southern Ohio Regional Committee on Mental Health and Deafness.  The team frequently provides outreach in the community and actively networks at events such as the Deaf Health Fair and Communicating at Coney.  The team regularly advocates to change policies to improve the accessibility of services to  Deaf Individuals.
 
Admission Criteria
 
Adults (18 and over) with a hearing impairment who have a severe mental disability as defined by DSM-IV-TR criteria.
 
Resident of Hamilton County
 
Identified Mental Health Need
