Snow Closing Policy
Elder High School and tech-reach follow the Oak Hills School District schedule for snow closings. 
Whenever Oak Hills School District is closed, both Elder and tech-reach will not hold classes.

 

Fee's: Class fee's range from $10.00 - $25.00

Time:  6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Where:  Elder High School Schaeper Center

Plenty of free parking, and on the bus line.  Enter Parking lot from 4005 Glenway Avenue or from 3900 Vincent Avenue.

 

**Note:  Courses fill up quickly. 

Computer Basics I [Computers Classes for Beginners] (6 Sessions.)
During this basic level, introductory class, students will learn the computer parts, how it works, how to use the mouse, keyboard, drives; how to run programs, open, create, and save files; and what the Windows Program is and how to use it.

Computer Basics II  (6 Sessions.)
In this follow up of Computer Basics I, students will learn some basic word processing skills; and know the basic concepts of spreadsheets, presentation software and databases.

Microsoft Word I (6 sessions)

Students will learn the basic skills necessary to begin using Word; learn how to create, edit, save and print docu-ments; and how to format text, paragraphs, and pages.  In addition they will learn to create, manage & format tables.

Microsoft PowerPoint I (6 sessions)
Students will learn the basic skills necessary to begin using PowerPoint, a presentation software, and learn how to create, modify, and run a basic PowerPoint presentation.

Microsoft Excel I (6 sessions)

Students will learn the basic skills necessary to begin using Excel, a spreadsheet software.  They will learn to create calculations, using formulas.  They will learn to create, edit, format, and print basic worksheets and graphic charts.

Microsoft Excel II (6 sessions)
Students will work with forms and templates, work with advanced formatting and style; and work with multiple worksheet and workbooks.

Adobe Photoshop (6 sessions)
This class provides an in depth exploration of image manipulation, including altering & creating images. Additionally you will learn how to prepare your completed files for processing.  There will be a more in depth look into Windows MovieMaker & students will create a robust MovieMaker movie.  Pre-requisite: students should be well acquainted with using a computer.

Conversational English (12 sessions)
This course is ONLY FOR HISPANICS who need to learn to speak conversational English in everyday American life.  It will cover speaking English at the doctor, grocery store, car dealer, bank & restaurant.  Also taught will be greetings & farewells, & introductions, etc.  In addition, students will learn in both Spanish and English basic computer skills.

 

Keyboarding/Typing ( 12 sessions)
Students will learn touch typing on the computer keyboard and build speed and accuracy in order to increase chances for getting or moving up on job.  If English is your second language, learn the American English alphabet and  where it is located on keyboard. Typing lessons are in English or Spanish language. This course is a must for doing work in high school and post-high school education.  Knowing how to type speeds up the making of word documents on the computer.

 

Internet Basics ( 4 sessions)
During this basic level, introductory class, students will learn what the internet is and where it came from, how to connect to the internet, what kind of computer and equipment are needed to connect, what a browser is and how to use it to surf the internet, as well as tips and tricks for surfing, how to use search engines, and how to set up a free email account.

Computer Training
Commuity Action Agency provides free basic and intermediate computer training classes in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Through these classes, participants are able to enhance their current computer skills or gain new skills in order to improve their career opportunities. Each session includes 3 classes per week for 2-6 weeks, dependent upon the computer program being studied.

In addition to other criteria, to be eligible to participate in CAA’s Computer Training Program, individuals must:

Be a resident of Hamilton County;
Be 18 years of age; and
Earn an income that is at or below 125% of poverty per the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
