Services offered to the following counties:  Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Butler and Warren County.  In Kentucky, Boone, Kenton and Campbell county.
 
Social Service
Social Workers provide the following:
  • Assessment of needs
  • Planning for services
  • Individual and/or family counseling concerning issues of adjustment to vision loss
  • Information and referral to other community resources
  • Therapeutic support groups
  • Consultation to agencies, organizations and other professionals.

 

Low Vision Service

Assistance areas

  • Optical aids for near tasks, such as reading and writing, including hand-held magnifiers, stand magnifiers, and special reading glasses
  • Telescopic aids for distance tasks, such as reading signs, identifying people across a room, or watching television
  • Lamps, reading stands and large print materials
  • Video magnifiers or CCTV's

 

Computer Access Service

Instruction is offered in:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Access technology
  • Computer applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets
  • Job adaptations
  • Internet and optical character rcognition (OCR) products
  • Notetakers and GPS technology

 

Early Childhood and Youth Services

Services include:

  • Emotional support to families to rebuild their hopes and dreams for their child
  • Home-based support and intervention with families of young children
  • Assessment of functional vision, including planning for Low Vision or Computer Access Service
  • Music intervention and instruction
  • Community and school-based orientation and mobility instruction in safe-travel skills
  • Information, resources and advocacy for children and families
  • Consultation and collaboration with teachers and others who provide services to children and their families

 

Orientation & Mobility Service

Instruction is offered in:
  • Use of remaining senses, including vision
  • Sighted Guide techniques for walking with another person
  • Use of a white cane for identification and safe travel
  • Orientation to home, school, work or outdoor destinations
  • Use of street crossings and public tranportation

 

Rehabilitation Teaching Service

Services include:

  • Adaptive cooking techniques and equipment
  • Personal management, such as grooming, relling time, and identifying clothing, money and medications
  • Adaptive ways to keep records, including check registers, large print checks, writing guides, tap recording and braille
  • Home management, including adaptive ways to organize, clean, shop and make minor household repairs
  • Use of adaptive techniques for sewing projects and crafts
  • Adaptive methods for diabetic managment

 

Radio Reading Services

Radio broadcast can be heard within a 50 mile radius of downtown Cincinnati.  Keeps listeners up to date on local community news.

 

Talking Book Machine Service

Listen to books and magazines on cassette tapes.  Over 150 Magazines and 48,000 book titles.
